Acne Treatments – L’Occitane vs. Olay Regenerist

Early last year I organized a small group of friends to start testing different skincare and anti-wrinkle products.  We ended up getting more friends involved and now that group has grown to be over 30 people.   During our weekly discussions we noticed some testers were also interested in sharing their experience with adult acne treatments.  I thought I’d share them with you here.

L’Occitane Immortelle Brightening Renewing Serum

Ingredients
Immortelle floral essential oil (for target and concentrated delivery, as claimed by the manufacturer Vitamin C derivative (Ascorbyl Glucoside)
Raspberry Extract
Other ingredients not disclosed.

Commentary:
The texture and consistency is slightly runny, clear, light but gently and comfortably moisturizing. The essential oils claimed to be used in this formula are in liposomes and thus do not interact with the oil-free water solubility of this serum in general. I’m almost aching to purchase this.

The ingredients of this product are very simple.  The consistency is excellent for acne prone skin.  It’s not greasy at all, very light, very fluid, will be extremely easy to mix with other lotions and moisturizers without creating some kind of crazy chemical reaction on your face. The only problem we found was that it comes in a dropper bottle.  It’s great in dispensing the fluid in small amounts… however, if you want to just stick the powder into the bottle and shake it up, the dropper might not be able to “get” all the powdery actives.

Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum

Ingredients
CyclopentaSiloxane, Water, Glycerin, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide 3 (Matrixyl), Carnosine (amino peptide), Tocopheryl Acetate (generic Vitamin E), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Green Tea), Allantoin, Cetyl Ricinoleate, BIS PEG/PPG 14/14 Dimethicone, PEG 10 Dimethicone, PEG 100 Stearate, PEG 10 Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Disodium EDTA, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Benzyl Alcohol, Citric Acid.

Commentary:
The consistency and slightly less runny texture helps the powder active ingredients adhere better to skin. This is perfect for putting the stuff right in your palms or on your fingertips, as it doesn’t run everywhere. It’s probably the most perfect base serum for niacinamide mixtures.
